One of my favorite things when teaching is to tweet about authors, books, ideas that I am engaging in class, particularly for living writers, scholars, artists, and folks. Then, if I get a response, I share it with my class. It is such a small thing, but the gesture is very exciting. I think sometimes students forget that books, stories, essays, and “stuff” is made by real people, real minds and bodies, with real histories, contexts, experiences, and perspectives. I tweeted out that I was teaching Larissa Lai‘s wonderful novel Salt Fish Girl, and I got a like!
