This winter quarter I am once again teaching Octavia Butler’s Dawn in my WGS 410/510: Speculative and Science Fictions of Color course. Whenever I teach Dawn, I always have my students attempt to draw, render, represent the Oankali, the aliens in the novel. I have not done a drawing of my own in some time. So, this time, I decided to contribute a drawing of my own to the exercise.
Edmond Y. Chang, “Not Human, Oankali” (5″ x 8″, ink on paper)
